Corridor Seed Station

Monarch Flyway Hub

Photoroom_20260701_221753.PNG

Corridor Seed Station is Wisconsin's first milkweed pod collection hub to compensate local harvesters per pound. In collaboration with Sustainable Monarch, our collection hub scales up native pollinator habitat restoration across the migratory flyway by bridging community science, ecological restoration, and local economic support.

By collecting and processing high-quality milkweed pods locally, we support broader regional conservation initiatives like Sustainable Monarch, turning harvested pods into continuous, vital habitat corridors for monarch butterflies and native pollinators.

1. Harvest Intact Pods

Late Summer - Early Fall

Locate mature milkweed pods in approved, unsprayed foraging spots. Harvest whole, intact pods when seeds inside are ripe and brown.

2. Store & Drop Off

Simple Storage

Store intact pods in breathable bags or boxes until designated drop-off dates. Harvesters do not need to dry, open, or separate seeds - our team handles all post-harvest processing at the hub.

3. Weigh & Get Paid

Drop-Off Day

Bring your intact pods to the collection hub. We weigh your harvest on site and pay harvesters directly per pound, putting funds back into the community while fueling habitat restoration.

Why Collection Matters

  • Genetic Adaptability: Locally sourced milkweed species produce resilient plants adapted to our specific soil types and regional climate conditions.

  • Corridor Scale: Restoring monarch populations across the flyway requires massive quantities of milkweed. Partnering with broader networks like Sustainable Monarch ensures our community's yield directly powers large-scale restoration projects.

  • Community-Driven Conservation: By offering a fair per-pound payout, we support local community members while expanding native pollinator corridors patch by patch.

Ethical Harvesting Reminder: Always leave at least 70% of milkweed pods on wild plants to allow natural re-seeding and support local resident fauna. Never harvest from protected nature reserves without explicit permission.
